About OUR PROGRAM
A Better Way Ministries, Inc is a place for men, ages 17-55, to find refuge from life controlling issues such as drugs and alcohol.
Our program is Christ centered and Biblically based. Located in Peachtree City, Georgia, for a period of 18 months, men who enter A Better Way will live, work and study alongside others; they will be properly equipped to seek Jesus Christ for the answers they so desperately need. A Better Way Ministries is not simply a rehab facility, we are a discipleship program. We are passionate about guiding our students to become fully transformed men of God, leaving destructive life patterns behind.
Many of the men in our program came to us with very little knowledge of the saving Gospel of Jesus Christ. We are absolutely committed to the daily spiritual growth of our students through personal Bible devotions, corporate worship and prayer, church services and specialized classes and study materials. We feel all of these commitments are necessary to provide the depth and knowledge that is crucial for authentic life change.
An 18 month discipleship program such as ours may seem daunting at first. A sudden lifestyle change from selfishness to structure can be very difficult; but our standards are non-negotiable. Communication with family and friends will be cut off for a period of several months. Our days start early at 4:45am. All types of nicotine products are strictly prohibited. Guidelines regarding hygiene, dress attire, organization, speech, attitude and personal responsibility – all individually enforced. The bar is set high at A Better Way Ministries, but if a man is willing to go the distance to experience true life change; we will most definitely go the distance for him.
A Better Way Ministries’ Cultural Beliefs:
- LIVING SPIRIT FILLED – attaining restoration by living completely dependent on the Holy Spirit.
- EMBRACING DIVERSITY – embracing and celebrating people the way Jesus would.
- BEING A SERVANT – surrendering my personal rights day and night so that others may succeed.
- CREATING FAMILY – embracing my brother’s heart in spiritual unity through God’s love.
- ADVANCING EDUCATION – developing the mind of Christ by teaching God’s word.
- BUILDING TRUST – doing what we say and protecting what we hear.
- MATURITY MATTERS – putting away childish things by being accountable and accepting responsibility.

Our REDEMPTION STORIES
If my people who are called by my name humble themselves, and pray and seek my face and turn from their wicked ways, then I will hear from heaven and will forgive their sin and heal their land. 2 Chronicles 7:14
My life started in a broken home that ended in divorce when I was young. My mother got remarried to a verbally abusive alcoholic who influenced my life for the worse over the next ten years. I spent part of my child hood going back and forth between my mother and father’s homes. My father was a drug user. I found my first cigarette and my first beer both before the age of 14. Most of my adolescent years were spent getting expelled from school and being locked away in youth detention centers. I came to blows with my stepfather on multiple occasions and began to follow in my biological father’s footsteps by using hard drugs.
I reached the worst part of my life when I discovered and became addicted to meth. By this time I had four children by three different women. I was verbally and physically abusive to them all. I lost my children due to this behavior and fell into deeper drug use. Feeling hopeless, I attempted suicide. My attempt failed, but three days later I received news that my step-brother (whom I had grown up with) had killed himself. It was at this point that God laid his miraculous hand on my life by orchestrating a chain of events that would lead me to A Better Way Ministries.
I have been introduced to my lord and savior Jesus Christ. I can now say that because of my relationship with Him, I am no longer the man I used to be. I can see God working in my life to restore my family and ultimately finish the work He started in me thirty years ago when He spoke me into existence. I am most thankful for the willing sacrifice that Jesus made, dying for my sins that I may be forgiven. I also thank A Better Way Ministries for providing me a place of refuge so that I can be made new in Christ. Thank God I am free at last.
I am a living testimony. I should have been lying in my grave, but God heard my cry and answered my prayers. God saved me from living in my own hell on earth and gave me a new beginning. I came to A Better Way Ministries with a wounded spirit, at an all-time low in my life. Drug abuse had caused me to lose my job of fifteen years and my residence. I sold everything I had, and used every penny of my savings to support my drug habit.
My wife was diagnosed with heart failure and cancer; she had taken a turn for the worse. She was admitted several times into the hospital. I hung in there and tried to care for her, but the drugs called me away. We had harsh words with one another concerning my addiction, and I left. Three days later I received a phone call that my wife had passed. My world was crashing down on top of me. With nothing left, I reached out to one of my daughters who I knew was a born again Christian. She called up some friends of hers who knew of A Better Way Ministries. They drove a good distance to meet me, brought me into their home for meal and took me to the ministry.
I am now in my twelfth month and I am getting so much more than I came here for. I just wanted to get off drugs but God found me in the process. I am building a wonderful relationship with Him. I’m learning so much about God and his scriptures. What used to seem boring to me is now a pleasure because God’s word has helped me in every aspect of my life. I turned 58 years old while in A Better Way. My body and mind were a deteriorating mess due to my drug abuse, but with God’s help and the support of Godly people, I have been restored. My health is better, my mind is focused on God – I have been set free.
On February 22nd 2015 I entered the A Better Way Ministries discipleship program. My life had spun out of control. Just three days before entering A Better Way, I overdosed on drugs and had to be rushed to the hospital. Because of my destructive lifestyle, my family no longer wanted anything to do with me.
I was facing prison time, and facing a future without my daughter. Addiction had an absolute grip on my life. Coming to A Better Way, I had no idea that God could make a completely different man out of me, but He did. God is actively rebuilding relationships that I had broken. He is doing incredible things in my life.
While at A Better Way I have been introduced to a good trade in woodworking and have the opportunity to help build these tables. I am learning that there is “a better way” to live my life than what I had done before. I thank the Lord for all that He has done for me. God bless.

“A Better Way” a book by JOHN BARROW, founder of A Better Way Ministries in Peachtree City, Georgia
One of the loneliest, most painful places a man can find himself is in a cold, dark prison cell. It is a place very few ever intended to go. Young boys dream of growing up to be policemen, firemen, cowboys—anything but convicts or inmates. But, because some of us could not stay within the boundaries, we found ourselves in too deep. What started out as a little “fun and adventure” finished up being another painful experience. One more exciting start—one more disastrous finish. But why? The question we keep asking ourselves is “why”?
“It is apparent to me that John Barrow has one goal in life and that is to help as many people as possible find freedom from the chains of addiction. This man has done and seen it all. John has been at the bottom and through the redemptive love of Jesus Christ has climbed his way out and achieved great success. What a powerful testimony! This book needs to be in every jail and prison in this country.”
–NICKY CRUZ of “The Cross and The Switchblade”, Author of “Run Baby Run”
“John’s life story, as told in A Better Way, reads like a screen play written by the most creative writer in Hollywood! I literally could not put the book down, captivated by the drama of the miraculous work of God’s grace and radical transformation of John’s life. A Better Way Ministries is helping to change the lives of so many young men, and will be the legacy of John’s life work and further testimony of what God can do for you too!”
