Cocaine / Crack

Cocaine / Crack Information

A powerful stimulant drug. In powder form (cocaine hydrochloride) is snorted by the user. When the powder is processed into a solid rock form it is known as crack, and is usually smoked by the user.

Over 5.3 million Americans over the age of 12 have abused cocaine and it is reported to be the second most used drug in the U.S.

Effects of cocaine use may include:

  • Heart attacks
  • Respiratory Failure
  • Strokes
  • Seizures
  • Abdominal Pain
  • Nausea
  • Paranoia
  • Mood disturbances

Cocaine typically gives the user a feeling of euphoria, and increased energy, as well as increased heart rate, blood pressure and temperature. Which is why it often leads to heart problems. People have a tendency to get hooked due to the feeling the drug initially gives off. “Chasing the high”

For users to quit, to them seems nearly impossible. As by the time they are addicted, they are often spending majority of their time trying to acquire their fix on a daily basis. Often doing things they never thought themselves possible. There is often a trail of broken relationships, marriages, loss of money, and legal trouble.

Treatment:

Detox is needed in helping someone addicted to cocaine as it is a highly addictive drug. The user MUST get it out of their system before recovery can fully begin. The detox must take place in a controlled environment, under medical supervision. This is the first step in recovery.

Cocaine treatment must begin from the inside out, so once the physical part is taken care of, you can begin to focus on the emotional parts. Through a safe environment, along with counseling and support, the user can start to rebuild their lives through their renewed thought process and behaviors.
